Updated version of this. It may be a bit chaotic to look at (I plan to split it into different maps for geography/topography, transportation networks, and political borders at a later date. For now, I just want a "hard" copy in case my hard drive and backups fail.

I love the effect for the Vaniric Icelands.  How did you do it?

Hi, thanks! :D

Did you mean the ice continent itself, or the frost-covered ocean around it?

For the first, I've got two different ice layers that I blended together (using masks to erase parts of the top layer so the bottom layer of ice would show through) with a big soft brush.

To make the ice drift out onto the ocean (like permafrost), I have another layer of ice with a mask (set to "hide all"). I swept around with a big soft brush on low opacity, starting from the bottom border and moving in so the southern edge is more frosty and then melts away as you get further north.

So basically, texture + mask + brush. :)

This is an impressive map, especially for a textures-based approach. You combine disparate elements nicely. I especially like the land glow effects around the polar caps. Have a llama.

Thank you, for both the comments and the llama! I crochet, so I can make some yarn with its wool and maybe pet it a bit if it doesn't spit at me. :D I'm glad the textures work for you!

Beautiful map!  I love your style, and I don't think it looks "chaotic" at all.  Love the inclusion of the ship routes as well.  Very nicely done!

I'm glad my dragon element was useful.  :)
